Karoo Spaces is a coffee table book written by Mara

Coetzee.

 

My design consists of photographs of the Karoo plains, which I edited in such a way to support my concept, as well as minimal text which relates to the minimalistic environment.

If one invisions the Karoo, the image of flat, dry plains and bright colours come to mind.

 

BUT

 

While designing the publication I decided to move towards the ‘darker’ side of the Karoo. The Karoo experiences many thunderstorms.  The sky before the storm is dramatic, with shafts of light burning down from the indigo clouds and rainbows dancing merrily just behind the thunder and the lightning.  This was my inspiration.

 

I wanted to create the experience of being present as the storm builds up, in the middle of the storm as well as after the storm.
